Shelly Beach is a coastal suburb which is a little more than a 90 minute drive from Sydney. The beach is popular with surfers thanks to reliable swells, as well as with golfers, as it's adjacent to an 18-hole course. Where there's the sea, there are shells. The Entrance Shell Museum offers interactive exhibits about, yes, shells, which are fun and educational for the whole family. Head here during inclement weather, or when you're sick of sand and sun.

Enjoy the surrounds of Shelly Beach

Just south of Shelly Beach is the suburb Bateau Bay. Here you can enjoy long coastal walks, head to Crackneck Point Lookout for views (bring a picnic, too!), or visit one section of the two-part Wyrabalong National Park. Speaking of this park, if you head north from Shelly Beach and past The Entrance, you'll arrive at its other section. Look out for birds and whales, enjoy incredible views, and go for a hike.

For slightly calmer waters than you'll necessarily find at Shelly Beach, head up the coast to Blue Bay. The water here is clean and clear and the beach is beloved for being fairly devoid of visitors. Just keep in mind there is no patrol. Golfers, meanwhile, don't have to go far for entertainment.
