The shortest journey time is about 4 hours and 45 minutes. The smaller Maroochydore Airport and Hervey Bay Airport are both less than 2 hours' drive from Rainbow Beach.

The drive from Brisbane takes approximately 2 hours and 45min. Head north on the M1 Bruce Highway until you reach Gympie. From Gympie, turn east onto Tin Can Bay Road. After 40km, veer right onto Rainbow Beach Road and follow it all the way to town. If you have a 4WD vehicle, you can also drive up the beautiful coastline of Great Sandy National Park north of Noosa via Cooloola. The journey along the shore is spectacular when tides are low.
