If you prefer public transport, catch one of the regular buses to Bombaderry from Sydney Central Station. Then, transfer to bus 103, run by Nowra Coaches, and get out at Booderee, just a few minutes walk from Hyams Beach. A train also runs from Martin Place Station in Sydney to Bombaderry Station, where you can catch the 103 bus.

A romantic dinner at the award-winning Gunyah Restaurant is an absolute must. This tree house restaurant is famous for its regional delicacies, including kangaroo and fresh seafood, as well as for its panoramic views over Jervis Bay.

Vegetarians are also well catered for in the area. The organic Pilgrims Cafe serves great coffee, as well as a creative menu with many vegetarian options. Alternatively, if you want some deliciously fresh Asian food, head to the Waterhouse Restaurant or the Wildginger Restaurant.

Finally, for a simple lunch or a quick snack near Hyams Beach, head to the iconic Hyams Beach Store and Cafe. Burgers, milkshakes, and fantastic coffee specialities await in this charming eatery.

Family holidays in Hyams Beach

About 30km north of Hyams Beach lies the small but charming Shoalhaven Zoo. For children and adults alike, it's a wonderful place to spend a day and be delighted by cute and exotic Australian marsupial species – kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, and echidnas, to name a few. Set on the banks of the Shoalhaven River amid rock formations and bushlands, the zoo is a sure-shot family delight.

Marsupials aside, the zoo is also home to lions, foxes, crocodiles, camels, and tortoises, as well as a colourful flock of birds including dazzling peacocks and macaws. Animal and bird shows, reptile handling, koala hugging, and a host of similar activities will keep the little ones busy.
