Get to know local maritime history

The Jervis Bay Maritime Museum, about a 40min drive from Currarong, has a world-famous collection of maritime instruments, navigational, and surveying artefacts. There are scores of ship models, paintings, and historical objects that make for an informational trip. The Museum also houses the historic Lady Denman ferry and other historic vessels. Following your visit, walk around the fashionable Huskisson town centre.

Currarong with the kids

The Shoalhaven Zoo, located on the Shoalhaven river less than a 40min drive from Currarong, is home to a small but pretty collection of Australian marsupials and birds. Children can play with farm animals such as sheep, cows, and horses while also getting to pet wallabies, kangaroos, and koalas. They can pose with pythons, peacocks, and macaws.

The zoo also has a quaint picnic area with a lot of grassy spots to lounge by the river. After seeing the animals, head to the Nowra Tree Top walk at the far end of the zoo, and try climbing above the trees.

Hit the beach near Currarong

Hyams Beach, renowned as the whitest sand beach in New South Wales, is the most popular destination near Currarong. Despite its popularity, you can easily find your own space on this long beach.

Hikers can take the white sand walk through gumtree forests, interspersed with five white sand beaches, ending at the turquoise blue waters of Hyams Beach. You can also snorkel in the shallow waters of nearby Abrahams Bosom Beach, which teem with sea life.
