Visit the world-famous Australia Zoo

Just 25 km south of Buderim lies Australia Zoo – one of Australia's most popular attractions and a wonderful place to spend a day with the little ones. Founded by world renowned wildlife enthusiast Steve Irwin, this 400-hectare zoo is considered one of Queensland's greatest icons and is sure to keep all age groups excited.

The zoo has a fascinating display of animals, a Cambodian-style Tiger Temple, native marsupials such as the wombat, kangaroo, Tasmanian devil and wallaby. There are special activities such as snapshots with cheetahs, encounters with bear cats and lemurs and even a walk with tigers! What sets this zoo apart is its thrilling 'Crocoseum' where zookeepers enthral the crowds with prehistoric crocodiles.

Hike up to epic lookouts in the Glass House Mountains

30 km south of Buderim lies the Glass House Mountains, named by James Cook himself in 1770. They include 11 peaks, though only two of these are open to travellers – Mount Tibrogargan and Mount Ngungun. Both mountains are full of walking trails through lush green forests and bushes that offer panoramic views of the hills on one side and the coastal townships on the other.

The most popular walking tracks include the easy Lookout circuit that offers panoramic views as far as Brisbane and Moreton island on a clear day. Besides hiking, the mountains are an excellent location for rock climbing and abseiling. You can also indulge in kayaking and horse riding. The drive from Buderim is considered extremely scenic – keep an eye out for the local farmers selling strawberries, avocados and a host of tropical fruits.
