Bribie Island is about 80km north of Brisbane CBD. A bridge from Sandstone Point was built in 1963 to connect Bribie Island to the mainland. From Brisbane, follow the M1 north as far as Caboolture, then turn right onto State Route 85 all the way to Bellara and Banksia Beach, on Bribie Island. The total drive should take around 90min, depending where your Bribie Island holiday rental is located.

If you're flying into Brisbane Airport from farther afield, Bribie Island is even closer, about a one hour and 15min drive. Just get straight onto the M1 from the airport, and follow the instructions above. If you're taking public transport, Queensland TransLink operate a number of buses around Bribie Island. There are also coach and rail services from Brisbane Airport and Brisbane CBD that take you straight to Bribie Island in just under two hours.

Food and drink on Bribie Island

This charming island off the coast of mainland Queensland is a foodie haven. For dinner, dine on seafood caught that morning or tuck into hearty bowls of authentic Indian curries—Bribie Island has it all. There's even a popular fast food joint for when the mood takes you. You'll also be spoiled for choice for casual daytime bites. Sue's Cafe and Takeaway and Sylvan Beach Seafood Cafe are just two options, both of them budget-friendly and serving dishes the kids will love.

If you're travelling as a couple or are just seeking something a little more refined for dinner, the options are no less abundant. Blue Anchorage, Sandstone Point Hotel, and La Vera Gourmet Pizza are local favourites with strong menus and delicious drinks, to boot. The Sandstone Hotel not only has an excellent bistro but is also a great bar where you can enjoy an evening cocktail.

Getting cultural on Bribie Island

Despite being a quaint island with a population of just 16,000 people, Bribie Island is peppered with small museums and cultural attractions to enjoy. The local community Arts Centre is a large venue encompassing several artistic spaces including The Mathew Flinders Art Gallery, which hosts a range of exhibitions and shows. The Bribie Vibe Arts & Craft Market takes place on the last Sunday of each month and is a wonderful place to pick up a souvenir. You'll have to rise fairly early to visit the Bribie Island Rotary Market, which is held on the second Sunday of each month between 6:30am and midday.

Holidays with kids on Bribie Island

This easily accessible destination located just off the eastern coast of the mainland has much to offer families on holiday. The beaches have golden sands and some have calm waters, perfect for building sandcastles and swimming. The west of the island, also known as Passage Side, is the preferable coast for those with kids, as the waters are much more placid.
