Getting to your Avoca Beach Accommodation

Located approximately 95km north of Sydney, Avoca Beach is easily accessible by private and public transport. Visitors driving from Sydney should head northwards along the Pacific Motorway, and exit onto the Central Coast Highway, before turning right onto Terrigal Drive at Erina. After a couple of kilometres, turn right again onto Charles Key Drive, followed by another right turn onto the Scenic Highway. Finally, turn left onto Avoca Drive, which will take you more or less to your Avoca Beach holiday rental.

When travelling to your accommodation, Avoca Beach can also be reached by catching a train from Sydney or Newcastle to Gosford, and then connecting to a local bus. Taxi and ride share services are also available from Gosford. The nearest airport to Avoca Beach is Sydney Airport, where visitors can access several car rental options, including Hertz, Europcar and Budget, or catch a train to Sydney's central railway station, and onwards, to Gosford.

Another fabulous location overlooking the beach is The Reef Restaurant. With absolutely stunning views, it offers bestsellers such as oysters with seaweed salad. The restaurant also offers a wide selection of wine and champagne that's perfect if you're celebrating special occasions with your loved ones.

If you want to dine in a location with sublime views, Point Cafe Avoca is the perfect place. Located beneath the Avoca Beach Surf Life Saving Club, the cafe's menu features fish and chips, wagyu beef burgers, barbecued duck and pancakes. Catch a film at the historic Avoca Beach Picture Theatre

Go retro and catch an indie flick at the Avoca Beach Picture Theatre. A family-owned beachside cinema built in 1951, the building's facade is filled with vintage movie posters, antiques and other memorabilia. In 2014, it was named as one of the BBC's Top 20 Cinemas Of The World. The theatre screens the latest blockbusters, holds film festivals, stages live theatre and French and Italian nights. Visitors can also watch interesting arthouse and documentary films.

Explore Avoca village in Avoca Drive and indulge yourself in a little shopping trip at Avoca Beach Antiques. The store has the largest collection of antique jewellery in the entire Central Coast and has continued to attract visitors from all over the country. They also sell silverware and fine china.

Swim and surf at Avoca's famous beach

Avoca's beach is great for swimming and is a popular destination for holidaymakers. Explore the giant rock platform at the southern end of the beach from where enthusiastic anglers are often to be found fishing. The wide stretch of golden sand makes it excellent for beach running and walking.

Known for its great waves, it serves as a fantastic surfing spot for both beginners and experts alike. The Central Coast Surf School offer crash courses for private individuals and groups. Surfing enthusiasts can rent a board for a day at Three Points Surf at Avoca Drive.

Rent a board for the day and go paddle boarding at Avoca Lake. A lagoon found just behind the beach, it is a great spot for kayaking, boating and canoeing.

For adventure seekers, get off the beaten track and drive down the coast to the Bouddi National Park. This 8km coastal walk offers spectacular views of the bay and can be a fantastic location for whale-watching during migration season. Avid scuba divers can explore ex-HMAS Adelaide, a sunken navy warship now creating an artificial reef for marine life. Holes have been strategically placed throughout the wreck to allow greater exploration and are open to divers of all levels.

Events to check out during your Avoca Beach holiday

Don't miss the annual 5 Lands Walk Festival, usually held during the winter solstice in June. For the past seven years this has been a popular cultural event where participants engage in a 9km walk starting at MacMasters Beach and ending at Terrigal, north of Avoca Beach. Along the way you will encounter traditional Aboriginal culture, live music and dancing featuring various artworks and sculpture created by talented local artists.

Beachside markets in this charming local town are usually held on the fourth Sunday of each month. The Central Coast's waterfront beach market is an amazing community that offers a relaxed atmosphere with delicious food and fantastic entertainment. Guests can also buy unique, locally made products which are sold at the various stalls at bargain prices.
